Co(l)laboratory Research Placement projects are designed to give promising individuals the opportunity to expand their horizons by carrying out genuine community focused research.
Co(l)laboratory Research Placements
Co(l)laboratory Research Placements are part-time (minimum 14hrs/week), practical development opportunities carried out over a continuous 10-week period.
Research Placements are unique to Co(l)laboratory, offering candidates the opportunity to gain meaningful experience in academic research and to take part in PhD level researcher training and events.
The Research Placement Experience
Research
Develop your analytical and problem solving skills through hands-on, genuine research projects. Immerse yourself in cutting edge research topics.
Training
You’ll be fully supported through our bespoke researcher training and development programme, designed to give you the skills you need to succeed.
Collaboration
Work in partnership with real communities and practice professionals. Receive support and guidance from your Co(l)lab peers and skilled supervisory team.
What does a Research Placement include?
All candidates successful after application and interview will receive a fully funded Co(l)laboratory Research Placement studentship, which includes the following:
- The opportunity to learn through practical experience as part of a real research project.
- Financial support with a Co(l)laboratory bursary payment of £1,300.
- Access to PhD-level resources and networks.
- Dedicated supervision from expert researchers and community practitioners.
- Flexible working and support (including disability support) to fit your placement around your existing commitments.
- Bespoke researcher training and development support to help you succeed in your placement and beyond.
- Award of a formal Certificate of Recognition on successful completion.

Our Research Placements studentships scheme is open to all candidates who meet our eligibility criteria, below:
- You must be over 18 years of age.
- You must be a UK permanent resident.
- You must NOT be actively enrolled in study at any university or research institution.
- You must NOT have any previous postgraduate or professional research experience beyond that of an
undergraduate degree. - You must NOT be a formal employee of either Nottingham Trent University or the University of Nottingham
