Symposium Announcement: Redefining Cultures of Excellence in Research, in Collaboration with EDEPI

    Friday 26 May 2023

    Collaborating for Inclusive Research Excellence

We are excited to extend an invitation to researchers and professionals from diverse fields to join us at a one-day symposium on Redefining Cultures of Excellence in Research. Co(l)laboratory is proud to collaborate with the Equity in Doctoral Education through Partnership and Innovation (EDEPI) programme in hosting this event, taking place on Wednesday, 28th June, 9.00-5.30, at Nottingham Trent University’s Clifton Campus. This symposium aims to challenge the status quo and pave the way for a more inclusive and innovative research environment.

Redefining Cultures of Excellence in Research

    Symposium focus

This symposium will focus on two mutually reinforcing areas: broadening pathways into research through inclusive recruitment practices for PhD and early career researchers, and creating more responsive and inclusive research agendas through co-creation between academics and communities.

Models for Change in Research Culture

Our aim is to explore models for change in recruiting researchers and setting research agendas, helping to share best practice, challenge institutional biases and establish a more inclusive culture to foster dynamic research. We will be highlighting two ongoing projects at NTU, Co(l)laboratory and EDEPI, as well as hosting a showcase of related work and project by colleagues from around the country. We also invite attendees to come together to contribute to the conversation and map the path to real, tangible change in research culture through an afternoon workshop led by Advance HE. If you work or specialise in the fields of doctoral education, researcher development, doctoral school or college, equality, diversity and inclusivity or have a general interest in the sector, then this event is for you!

    Keynote Speakers:

Dr. Bernadine Idowu (University of West London) Founder of the Black Minority and Ethnic Early Career Researchers Conference

Professor Kalwant Bhopal (University of Birmingham) Professor of Education and Social Justice
