Aims and Objectives
What does Co(l)laboratory aim to do?
- To bring more community perspectives into research
- To address locally specific challenges
- To enable local people from more diverse backgrounds to succeed in research
How does Co(l)laboratory intend to achieve these aims?
Co(l)laboratory has been designed as a holistic research programme. This means that in order to achieve our aims, our work seeks to addresses all aspects of the research life-cycle, ensuring that the change we make is meaningful and sustainable. Our work focuses on 5 areas of activity, details below.
Community Engagement
We’re creating new ways for local individuals, professionals, and organisations in our communities to work with us by telling us what our new research should focus on, and how our current research could make the biggest impact.
Research Co-Creation
We’re working to democratise the research creation by enabling community focused organisations to equitably contribute to the research creation process, sharing their expertise and collaborating with academics.
Supporting New Research
We offer funding to support new, collaborative, community centred research projects, in the form of 3-year PhDs and 10-week Research Placements, which seek to investigate challenges based on priorities set by our communities.
Inclusive Recruitment
We’re challenging traditional approaches to researcher recruitment, moving away from narrow, exclusionary metrics, towards a more inclusive, competency based model that focuses on an individual’s potential.
Training & Development
We’re working with experts in community and civically engaged research at the NCCPE to design research skills training for our communities, and specialist programmes for our Co(l)lab research candidates.
