How does it work?
Forget research locked away in labs—we believe in real-world knowledge, the kind that comes from local people, community champions, and everyday experiences. This is your chance to influence which projects get created and funded and ensure that Collaboratory’s research makes a real difference in Leicester(shire) and Rutland!
The Leicester’s Voice in Research initiative aims to work with local residents, community leaders, local civic and community professionals etc., who have knowledge, insight, and experience of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland’s diverse communities.
- 💡 STEP 1 – Setting Community Priorities: Join our afternoon workshop where you will work together with fellow attendees to identify the biggest local challenges.
- 🤝 STEP 2 – Research Co-Creation: We share these community priorities with our teams of local researchers and community organisations who use them to guide the creation of new community research projects. You have the chance to meet them and contribute to discussions at the research co-creation workshop.
- ✅ STEP 3 – Project Selection Panel: Join local academic researchers and the Collaboratory team to help chose which will be the next research projects to be funded for our 2026 cohort.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for new passionate and motivated individuals to help us better understand some of the complex social challenges in our local communities. We’re looking for people who have an in-depth understanding of specific issues that affect Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland communities to join our initiative and collaborate with their local universities.
- ✔️ Do you play an active role in local community groups, networks, or forums?
- ✔️ Do you have first-hand experience of challenges facing Leicester(shire) & Rutland?
- ✔️ Do you work with local communities through healthcare, education, charities, councils, or other services?
If you can answer yes to any of these, then we need you to get involved!
