Co(l)laboratory Researcher Profiles
Project Title: How does trust impact participation in health promoting activities and how has this changed during/as a result of the pandemic?
What were you doing before starting this PhD?
Before my PhD journey I was working as a specialist BAMER Substance misuse practitioner and Health Promotions. I have been involved in public health initiatives in Nottingham since 2017 and have also worked with The University of Nottingham for 15years for Health Sciences and within Student Welfare. As well as the above, I am a mother to 4 beautiful children (16,14,12 and 11) and my 3 cats. They keep me very busy as I manage their lives and their cricket careers (yes, I am a cricket mum with one semi-professional player).
What motivated you to apply for this specific PhD project?
What motivates me is that this project is that it combines a research angle with my existing knowledge. I am familiar with some of the challenges that are being faces in terms of health promotions and I know that this knowledge combined with the knowledge and expertise my supervisors have will help me development as a researcher/scholar. I am also looking forward to being part of the Co(l)Laboratory initiative where they have used a new approach to research teaming up with other partners to research what matters the most with people who know the most and those who feel the most!
What difference do you hope to make in Nottingham through this research?
I hope that this research will allow me to understand the dynamics of Nottingham and what works for its community. I hope that by researching we will be able to address the community of Nottingham and their needs and do what works for them. I hope that this targeted approach will contribute to a public health approach and help to drive strategy and decision making in Nottingham.
What do you hope to be doing in 5 years’ time? (personally and/or professionally)
Celebrating my achievements with the ones I love the most. I hope I become an expert in this field and that I can showcase my findings and I open the doors for others who will starting their journey!
